Final Probell meeting
After 30 month the EC-project “Maintenance and Protection of Bells – PROBELL” ended on 30th March 2008. The final meeting will be performed at UniAS Kempten from 23rd to 25th April 2008 with all partners.
The numerous results from the experimental and numerical investigations at the Universities Ljubljana, Padua and Kempten will be presented and discussed. New procedures and software tools for the layout of the bell – clapper – yoke – belfry – systems were elaborated. Guidelines for a setup of bells with low risk for damage and wear will be presented. The evaluation of the sound quality depending on the components and parameters will be discussed. The new procedures and evaluation data can be applied for the determination of risk and sound on bells in towers.

Measurements on the largest bell of St. Peter in Rome
On the 15th and 16th April 2008 measurements will performed on the largest bell of “St. Peter” in Rome/Vatican, the “Campanone”. The Campanone rings only at Christmas, Easter, Feast of Peter & Paul and if the Pope dies or the new Pope was elected.
The Probell team got the permission to investigate and to ring this important bell.

Measurements on the isle Reichenau
On the isle Reichenau (in the Lake Constance), which is a part of the world cultural heritage, measurements were performed in the Minster of Mittelzell on the “Wetterglocke” (2060 kg) cast in the 14th century. The measurements were accompanied by a film team of “Euro News”.
